Admissions
Welcome to The Brownstone School and thank you for your interest in our school. As you explore The Brownstone School as an option for your child's preschool experience, our process offers several opportunities to visit and learn about our program first-hand. We believe that one of the most important aspects of the admissions process is for parents to have a clear understanding of each school's mission and philosophy so that they may determine which school is the right one for their child and family.
The Brownstone School's admission procedures require that a completed Basic Application and Parent Questionnaire are submitted before parents may tour the school. Parents must call the school to schedule an appointment. Following the parent tour, the family should contact the school to arrange for a child visit if they want to continue with the application process. The child's application file is not considered complete until the parent tour and child visit have been completed.
Priority in the distribution of applications and admissions decisions is given to siblings of students currently enrolled. Legacy families also receive preference in the distribution of applications and are required to complete the regular application process. The number of applications accepted for consideration for individual classrooms is based on the projected availability of slots. With regard to sibling preference, the older child must have attended The Brownstone School for a minimum of two years. Returning students and their siblings are given priority over new students when determining attendance schedules.
The Brownstone School follows admission practices set forth by ISAAGNY and other independent school governing bodies. As such, the school mails decisions to all applicants on notification dates selected by ISAAGNY; candidates are not solicited or recruited during the decision making period; applicants are not required to list the names of other schools to which they are applying and will not be asked for this information during the admissions process; and first choice letters are not required but parents can express interest in our school if they so wish. Following these principles ensures that every applicant applying to The Brownstone School and other independent preschool programs are treated fairly and in the same manner.
The school does not discriminate in violation of the law on the basis of race, sex, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, or disability which is unrelated to the ability to enjoy the benefits of the school’s programs, facilities, or services. The school accepts children from all racial, ethnic, religious, economic backgrounds, and varying abilities to promote multiculturalism and diversity. Admissions decisions are made without regard to financial need or applications for financial aid.
